Catnip (Nepeta cataria) and silvervine (Actinidia polygama) are both plants that elicit fun behavioral responses in cats, but they have some differences in their effects & the way cats react to them:
Catnip: When a cat plays with catnip, they may exhibit behaviors such as rolling, rubbing, purring, and hyperactive play. Some cats become more mellow and may even drool in response to catnip. The effects of catnip typically last for about 10-15 minutes. Not all cats are affected by catnip. It is estimated that around 50-70% of cats are sensitive to catnip, while others show little to no reaction
Silvervine: Silvervine can elicit similar reactions in cats as catnip, including rolling and rubbing. Some cats that do not respond to catnip may still react to silvervine. The effects of silvervine may last longer than catnip, often up to 30 minutes or more. Silvervine tends to be more universally appealing to cats. Even cats that do not respond to catnip can have a response to silvervine.

Silvervine (Actinidia polygama)
Also known as matatabi in Japan, silvervine is a climbing plant native to Asia. It has been used in traditional Asian medicine and as a cat attractant for many years. The naturally occurring active compounds in silvervine responsible for cats reaction is actinidine.
We use all natural, USA grown, highly potent catnip as the base for this blend. Cats go crazy for the essential oil Nepetalactone found mostly in the flower buds of the catnip plant. Our catnip is chock full of buds!
To make our natural Silvervine Powder, we very finely grind up the dried fruit of an climbing ivy like plant called the Actinindia Polygama- more commonly known as Silver Vine due to the distinctive color of its leaves.
Combining both of these differently acting and all natural plants into one mix will encourage your cat to have a wonderful time. If you have a cat who is hard to please this is the perfect blend.
